It’s hard to choose one favourite memory when I think about my time spent at Chilawee Trails because it is always my favourite time of the year.
I always look forward to going back to camp because of the incredible people and all the new people I’m lucky to meet each year. One memory that does come to mind is when I was a counsellor in training for the LIT Cabin. I worked with a great team of counsellors as well as my co-counsellor was a good friend of mine. We worked as a team to lead the LITs and the four of us became close friends as well!
I remember being nervous to be a counsellor in training, especially for the group of campers that would soon be staff, but it was an incredible experience and I learned a lot in the position. The LIT program has a different program than regular campers and I loved helping lead the games, talks, and especially going hiking in Algonquin with the LITS.
The role gave me a lot of confidence and helped later when I was a counsellor and especially when I was a director in training last year. It’s incredible to see how Chilawee helps young girls grow in many areas such as friendship, leadership, and faith.
Many of my campers that year have returned to work as staff and it’s great to see them as leaders.
