2019 was a big year for Chilawee Trails as we celebrated our 25th anniversary.
One of the special anniversary activities was cupcake decorating. Our kitchen staff prepared enough cupcakes for the entire camp as well as icing supplies. Crafts directors Frances and Anna taught campers different decorating techniques to make some truly beautiful culinary creations. Because of limited space, the camp was split in half. The first day, one half prepared and decorated cupcakes. At lunch, they presented the cupcakes to the other half of camp. On the second day, the other half returned the favour.
Another special anniversary activity was the Proxy Olympics, occurring after lunch on Olympic Day. For this event, each cabin chose a staff member to represent them in a series of tasks set by the LIT campers. Campers enjoyed watching staff members sing, dance and juggle their way through the rounds of competition.
Dance also made a return to Chilawee. With dance instructors Tessa and Sophie, cabins developed and practiced their own dance routine. The end-of-week shows were very impressive and campers enjoyed the chance to dance as a team.
This year, the entire county was under a fire ban which presented a challenge. Several staff members got together and developed an ingenious fire-less campfire, made out of tissue paper, pool noodles and flashlights. Campfire sing-a-longs were able to continue without interruption.
