{"id":191,"date":"2020-03-03T15:19:43","date_gmt":"2020-03-03T15:19:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chilaweetrails.ca\/?page_id=191"},"modified":"2020-03-03T15:19:43","modified_gmt":"2020-03-03T15:19:43","slug":"safe-workplace-policy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chilaweetrails.ca\/?page_id=191","title":{"rendered":"Safe Workplace Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Neeje Association for Women and Family<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">is a\nnon-profit corporation that undertakes community charitable work and oversees\nseveral projects that reflect its corporate philosophy and goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>POLICY STATEMENT<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Neeje Association for Women and Family (hereinafter\n&#8220;Neeje&#8221;) wants to maintain a workplace that fosters the personal and\nprofessional growth of all its employees, volunteers, members and friends, as\nwell as their families. All its members have a role to play in maintaining such\na workplace and community. Managers and coordinators are responsible for leading\nin such a way that each person, including our guests and advisees, is treated\nwith respect.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every staff member must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Foster collaboration and communication with coworkers;<\/li><li>Treat other staff fairly, with dignity and respect;<\/li><li>Promote harmony and team spirit in all workplace relationships;<\/li><li>Strive to understand their performance standards and\ncommunicate to further this understanding;<\/li><li>Seek and consider the views of other employees or members\nand encourage them to participate in decision-making processes that impact\ntheir work and careers;<\/li><li>Encourage the growth and development of employees by\nhelping them achieve their personal goals both within and outside the\norganization;<\/li><li>Seek to avoid workplace conflicts and, if conflicts\narise, seek to resolve them in a timely and fair manner;<\/li><li>Implement all policies fairly, recognizing that jobs might be different but are equally\nimportant; that individual performance is acknowledged\nand measured against established standards; and that every employee is entitled\nto fair treatment;<\/li><li>Acknowledge that employees and members may go through difficult times in their\npersonal lives, show compassion and understanding.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CONFLICT RESOLUTION<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is unfortunate that conflicts arise in a workplace. In\norder to resolve any conflict or dispute quickly and fairly, we recommend the following procedure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Talk to the person you are in conflict with. Conflicts\nare often caused by misunderstanding and miscommunication.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the conversation with the other person has no effect,\ntalk to the director. She will organize a meeting between conflicting parties for resolution.&nbsp;\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the director is unable to resolve the conflict, the\nparties may be referred to a mediator, including a designated member of Neeje\u2019s\nBoard of Directors. All parties\nin the conflict must respect the mediator&#8217;s decision. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">p. 1\/3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>harassment<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neeje is committed to providing its employees and guests\nwith a harassment-free environment.\nMutual respect, collaboration and understanding must be the basis of interactions between all staff, administration and guests.\nNeeje does not tolerate behaviors that could undermine a person&#8217;s dignity or\nself-esteem, or create an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many forms of harassment, but in all cases, it is an action \u2013 verbal or\nphysical, taking place once or repeatedly \u2013 that a person deems inappropriate\nand humiliating, offensive or degrading. For the\npurposes of this policy, the word\n&#8220;inappropriate&#8221; refers to an\naction that the person guilty of harassment knows (or\nreasonably ought to know) to be unwelcome by the victim of harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sexual harassment is defined as any inappropriate attention of a sexual nature (e.g.,\ncomments about appearance or personal life), any\noffensive material, written or visual (e.g., graffiti or degrading photos), any\nphysical contact of any kind or any request for sexual favors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Workplace violence<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Workplace violence can be defined as a threat or assault that occurs at\nwork and that can cause an employee physical or psychological harm, illness, pain or injury. The assault can be verbal,\npsychological or sexual in nature. Verbal assault consists of inappropriate, humiliating,\noffensive, threatening or degrading comments.\nPsychological assault is an act that causes fear or undermines a person&#8217;s\ndignity or self-esteem. Sexual assault occurs through explicit sexual words,\ngestures or statements that are inappropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neeje does not tolerate abuse, harassment or violence in any way. Anyone guilty of abuse,\nharassment or violence is subject to progressive discipline up to and including\ndismissal, withdrawal from the Board of Directors or committees, and possible criminal\ncharges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure compliance with this policy and maintain a\nhealthy workplace, Neeje requires all staff to firmly commit to follow this work policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I acknowledge\nthat I have read and understood the objectives and procedures of the <strong>Safe Workplace Policy<\/strong> and I commit following\nthem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>___________________________________&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reference: Labour Standards Commission<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">p. 2\/3<br>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EMPLOYER COMMITMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Neeje Association for Women and Family<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">states that respect between people is a fundamental value\nof the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>No disrespectful behavior will be tolerated between:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>a superior and an employee<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>several employees and one coworker<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>an employee and a guest or advisee<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/li><li><strong>an employee and a coworker<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, each employee contributes, through her\nconduct, to maintaining a safe work environment that is free from psychological\nharassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Neeje Association for Women and Family<\/strong> is committed to:<em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Preventing psychological\nand sexual harassment in the workplace as defined by work standards legislation<\/li><li>Halting any\npsychological or sexual harassment that it becomes aware of<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If a problem arises<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any employee or resident who believes she is the object\nof inappropriate or malicious actions or behavior may confidentially contact<strong> Mrs Nicole Scheidl, Chair of the Board of\nDirectors, <\/strong>to request her intervention for the prompt resolution of the\nsituation.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I guarantee that my intervention will be impartial, respectful\nand fair, that I will act discreetly to resolve the situation and that I will protect\nthe privacy of every person who will be met as part of the resolution process.\nI also guarantee that no employee will be penalized for requesting such an\nintervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">________________________________________&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
